CBD Oil FAQs

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of many chemical compounds found within the hemp plant. These compounds are called cannabinoids. The human body produces its own endocannabinoids that bind to receptors in the nervous system. When you take CBD it bonds to these receptors, and can help to control appetite, pain, sleep and mood.

CBD has been shown to be very safe. There have been dozens of clinical trials testing CBD’s effects for specific health conditions. All have reported a low rate of side effects. CBD is non-lethal. Even at very high doses the most common side effects are drowsiness, lightheadedness, and nausea. Potential side effects can be avoided by starting with low doses of CBD and gradually working up to a dose you are comfortable with.

The CBD found in most products on the market today comes from hemp plants, not marijuana plants. Hemp and marijuana plants both come from the cannabis family, but chemically they are very different. Marijuana plants contain high levels of another compound called THC, which is intoxicating when taken. Hemp plants contain high levels of CBD, but must contain less than 0.3% THC to be legally classified as hemp.

“Hemp” is a term used to classify varieties of Cannabis that contain 0.3% THC or less.

In living hemp, CBDa is the main phytocannabinoid compound that offers major health benefits to the body – it is the parent compound to CBD.

CBDa has demonstrated superior healing effects compared to CBD. It’s considered to be more potent in the brain. It’s less altered from its natural state which increases it’s healing benefits. And it has higher anti-inflammatory qualities. Ultimately, CBDa is more efficient than CBD because less is required to experience it’s benefits

Unfortunately, most CBD oils on the market today are considered “dead” because they’re missing many of the natural healing compounds found in the hemp plant. Most commercial extraction processes use extreme heat and solvents that kill off the CBDa. Leaving you with a final product that has lost its benefits by the time it’s bottled and sold to you.

Full-Spectrum CBD products contain all of the compounds that naturally occur in the hemp plant. This will include terpenes, oils, and other cannabinoids, including THC. Broad-spectrum products are processed to remove any remaining THC from the original full-spectrum extract, but retain other chemical compounds. CBD isolates are heavily processed to remove all compounds other than CBD, resulting in a 99% pure CBD powder.

Hemp Seed Oil, as its name indicates, is extracted from pressing hemp seeds. Hemp oil is generally considered a food item and can be found in food markets, together with other types of oil. It is known for its countless health benefits, making it part of the superfood group. Hemp Seed Oil is high in antioxidants, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, but does NOT contain any CBD or other cannabinoids.

CBD oil is extracted from the hemp plant, which has high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) and low levels (less than 0.3%) of THC. We only produce CBD oil from carefully sourced USDA organic hemp that has a high concentration of phytochemicals

No. CBD will not get you high, because it is not psychoactive like THC is.

Some people assume that CBD will get you high because it comes from the same plant as THC, but when isolated it does not have an intoxicating effect.

So what does taking CBD feel like? CBD can help you to feel calm and relaxed, but not “stoned”. Instead of getting the “munchies” your appetite may be more well regulated.

And CBD may help you to rest better, but it will not make you feel drowsy or sleepy.

Full Spectrum CBD products may contain up to 0.3% THC. If dosing recommendations of CBD products are followed correctly, this is not enough THC to have any intoxicating effect on the user.

At Soulsome, we have designed our tinctures to have a lower THC amount than most full-spectrum CBD oils on the market. Our THC levels are well below the legal limit.
