Can I take my CBD on the airplane?
One of the most asked questions about CBD and travel is: Can I take my bottle of Soulsome CBD oil on the airplane? There are a couple of answers to this, so be sure to read all of this post to be sure you can answer the question: What are the TSA rules for travel with CBD?
Domestic Air travel and CBD.
In 2018 the Transportation Safety Authority (TSA) announced that they would permit passengers to carry CBD oil on domestic flights. The TSA‘s guidelines on CBD and medical marijuana products is that they must comply with federal laws–specifically the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. So, if you want to fly with your CBD oil, you need to ensure that it is made from industrial hemp, and it must also contain less than 0.3% THC.
Something else that will matter to the TSA is how much CBD oil you want to travel with. TSA guidelines on this follow the 3-1-1 rule. The 3-1-1 rule is easy to remember if you do the following:
- (3) All liquids must fit into a 3.4oz (100ml) bottle. Luckily Soulsome comes in a 1oz or 30ml bottle, perfect for this sort of thing.
- (1) All of the liquids you wish to carry with you must fit into one clear, plastic, quart-sized bag. You must keep all your aerosols, gels, creams, and pastes in this quart-sized bag.
- (1) Each passenger is allowed only one quart-sized bag, and all your liquid items must fit into it.
If you have any container of liquid larger than 3.4oz (100ml), the TSA will need you to place that in your checked baggage regardless of what is in it. We also recommend that you carry your CBD prescription (if you have one) as well as the Soulsome Certificate of Analysis (COA) sheet in case your TSA agent needs to confirm the contents of your Soulsome CBD bottle.
International Air travel and CBD.
International air travel with CBD is much trickier than domestic travel, mainly because each country has its own rules and regulations regarding CBD use.
In short, we do not advise traveling with CBD as there are just too many risks involved. Although many countries share a similar position to the US on medical marijuana and CBD oil, many do not. Some countries have incredibly punitive laws about any “drug” or people considered to be transporting a “drug” through their airports. It would be wise to leave your trusty bottle of Soulsome at home for international travel as it could be perilous for you to try to take it with you to some nations.
Remember to be safe and prepare for your trip (and your packing) well in advance to avoid unnecessary headaches at the airport. Check for changes to the TSA’s rules for travel with CBD regularly and don’t try to take your Soulsome CBD with you when traveling internationally.
